China is now using advanced 3D-printing tech in its warplanes

3D printing at large scale

“We are using 3D printer technologies on aircraft at an engineering scale and we’re in a world-leading place,” Doctor Li Xiaodan from Shenyang Aircraft Company’s craft study institute, said to China Central Television (CCTV), on Saturday.

This is partly due to an increasing demand for planes which has seen traditional manufacturing reach its limit in 2013. New 3D printing technologies allow for the creation of planes that are strong, durable, and cost-effective.

Traditional manufacturing techniques have many disadvantages, including the necessity to use rivets and welding to join parts. 3D printing creates an integrated part which gives the structure greater structural strength and a longer service life.

3D printing is also very fast and uses no additional materials. This allows for lighter parts that allow an airplane to fly farther and perform better. 3D printing is very fast, which allows parts to be manufactured quickly and makes logistics support easier and more affordable.

This industry is gaining popularity

3D printing has become a popular technology in aircraft manufacturing. Users include the Shenyang Aircraft Company and other Chinese aircraft manufacturers. This may sound like a revolutionary technology for the 3D printing industry, but it is not. Other aircraft manufacturers have used it before.
